Project Description:

Save the Children has developed a strong foundation that paves the way for children to learn better and grow optimally through play. Since 2015, YSTC-Save the Children has started an ECCD program in urban area of North Jakarta and East Jakarta by socializing play principle as the best way for young children to learn. Recently, Save the Children through BERMAIN PROJECT work together with implementing partners which is PKK (Family Welfare Organization, is a women organization) in Provincial Level and HIMPAUDI (the ECCD Teacher Association) to develop Play ECCD model in two ECCD centres and scaling up in 2 districts in Jakarta. For improving capacity of ECCD teachers, we will train 60 master trainers on Play module (6 topics). The master trainers are consisting of selected ECCD teachers and school supervision (District of Education Office staff).  The trained master trainers will train 510 ECCD teachers in teacher working groups/clusters in 2 districts (West Jakarta and South Jakarta). In order to measure the impact of the project, in July 2019 baseline study was conducted along with endline study in November 2019.

Methodology:

The study included two tools: IDELA test and survey with parents/caregivers. IDELA test was administered among 4 ECCD in 2 two districts which are south Jakarta and west Jakarta and enrolled 126 children and 126 parent/caregivers in the baseline study. An important limitation of this pilot study is some children and caregivers were not able to be matched at baseline and endline which decreased the overall sample size. The endline study could only reach to around 81 unique children and 79 caregivers due to their unavailability. This study uses descriptive analyst. Summary statistics be presented to display children performance in each of the instrument sub-tests, as well as the involvement of the caregivers in the ECCD development and learning of children.

Analysis Approach:

The main purpose of the quantitative analysis is to investigate changes in children development, as well as of caregiver knowledge and behaviors related to early development, care and learning. This study uses descriptive analyst. Summary statistics will be presented to display children performance in each of the instrument sub-tests, as well as the involvement of the caregivers in the ECCD development and learning of children.
